We’re thrilled to start a Q&A session to help businesses elevate themselves with more resources. Today we’re featuring Fatima Mahmood, Brand Designer and Founder of Conceiv. She’s an entrepreneur with a knack for visual communication, design and is able to create stunning brand designs.
Branding and social media are two separate functions within marketing that work together to broaden your top of funnel. If you’re a business owner and not familiar with theses terms, we’ll be discussing more about this topic.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m Fatima – the founder, face and brains behind Conceiv. I help businesses tell their story and vision to their audience with bespoke visuals. I’ve been in this business for over 5 years now and I’ve enjoyed every second of it – the grill, the achievements, the failures, all of it.
It’s safe to say my work and passion for design has always defined who I am – from the little painter to the Brand Designer I am today.
What motivated you to start Conceiv?
Apart from my passion for design and visual communication, the lack of understanding and respect for ‘Brand Personality’ in our local market led me to start Conceiv. I had been designing in multiple areas before but the impact of brand personality on a brand’s success led me to narrow it down to this specific niche.
Is there a specific niche you like to serve and why?
Absolutely, I think every artist has a niche that they absolutely thrive in. I’ve worked in multiple industries but my top favorite niches to work with would be:
1- Health & Lifestyle
2- Fashion & Beauty
3- Food & Beverages
My personal interest in all these industries make me see the details and intricacy of all elements better.
What are some mistakes you see business owners make when it comes to brand Identity?
“If I have a logo, that means I have a brand identity” – The number of times I’ve seen the majority of people making this first mistake is countless. Having a logo is like having one piece of a puzzle. The bigger picture is a lot more detailed, that makes up an entire personality for your brand.
Your brand voice, tone, customer service, product, seamless experience – all of these elements are just some examples of what comes before just putting an icon to your social media profile.
Would you say branding and social media work together to create a social media presence. Could you tell us a bit about how to incorporate your brand design on social media?
Absolutely. Social Media Presence, Digital Marketing, Brand Identity etc – they’re all like sisters that may overlap in certain areas but each has their own purpose to serve. They look similar and can aid each other in making a brand successful but one of them alone might not be enough to really make an impact.
Would you say a solid brand identity is required to launch on social media? Tell us why
I cannot stress this enough because I have seen hundreds of small to medium businesses launching straight to social media with their product and not giving enough thought to developing their brand persona first. It’s like going to a foreign woodland without a map. You’re there but after a while you get lost and you’re not sure where you went wrong. It’s a guide that serves to maintain persistence and consistency in what you do and how you do it for your audience. It’s a beacon that keeps showing you the right path and adjusting your strategy accordingly.
Our brands in the local market have the social media figured out but the majority of them still lack when it comes to their brand personality. We all know who sells what, but if you ask your customer to define their experience with you or just simply you, you’ll see the lag in their answer and the fact that they have not yet connected to the brand even though they’re bought your product.
